Brian Gillespie is a theatre artist and educator based in New York City.

He creates work that embraces high theatricality and celebrates the inherent artifice of the medium. With a spirit of inventiveness and play, his work encourages audiences to transcend the realm of realism and actively engage their imaginations to co-create the theatrical event. 

He has directed in New York for the Samuel French Short Play Festival, Boomerang Theatre Co., Primary Stages - ESPA, New York Musical Festival, Urban Stages, Rising Sun Production Co., Articulate Theatre Co., Planet Connections, Hamlet Isn't Dead, Turn To Flesh Productions, Wide Eyed Productions, AMIOS, Truant Arts, CAPS LOCK Theatre, Awe Creative Group, Anthem Theatre Company, Distilled Theatre Co., Lather, Rinse, Repeat: A Playwrights' Collective and Pull Together Productions, where he also served as Artistic Director.

As an actor, some of the companies Brian has performed with include: The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, A Noise Within, TheatreWorks Palo Alto, Harlequin Productions, CEO Theatre, Hubbard Hall, Word for Word, and 42nd Street Moon.

He is a member of The Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab (2018), SDC (Associate Member), Actors' Equity, The League of Independent Theater, and a founding member of the directors' collective, The Best Thing Ever (TBTE). He holds an MFA from the University of Washington and was also a 2-day champion on the game show, Jeopardy!

As an educator, Brian has taught at Binghamton University, the University of Washington, Marymount Manhattan College, and Santa Fe University of Art & Design. He has also directed undergraduate mainstage productions for Binghamton, SFUAD and Seton Hall University.
